Assessing Young Children's Hierarchical Action Segmentation

چکیده
Recognizing where action units begin and end is an earlydeveloping skill that supports inferences about goals motivating others' action. One notable feature of goal-directed action is that segments are organized hierarchically. That is, action is interpreted as structured with respect to the goals and sub-goals of an actor, which can be recognized as corresponding to coarserand finer-grained action units respectively. We report on the success of adapting a nonverbal paradigm to index hierarchical action segmentation in a developmental population. Results indicated that 3and 4-year-old children, similar to adults in past studies, responded to segment boundaries with surges in attention that varied according to event granularity (e.g., finevs. coarsegrained). This effect was seen most strongly in children displaying superior memory for the events.

Assessing Behavioral and Computational Approaches to Naturalistic Action Segmentation
Recognizing where one action ends and another begins is an automatic and seemingly effortless process that supports understanding of goal-directed action. One characteristic of such action segmentation is that it is hierarchical; it reflects the goals and sub-goals of an actor, which correspond to coarseand fine-grained action units respectively. We report on the success of one method of assess...

Drastic changes and turbulence in macro-economic factors have the greatest impact on banks target market attractiveness in Iran. It is assumed that conventional segmentation models at the corporate level are not efficient for banking system. This study aims to develop a new segmentation model at the industry level for banks of Iran. For this purpose, structures and variables at the industry lev...
متن کاملChildren’s Learning from Touch Screens: A Dual Representation Perspective
Parents and educators often expect that children will learn from touch screen devices, such as during joint e-book reading. Therefore an essential question is whether young children understand that the touch screen can be a symbolic medium - that entities represented on the touch screen can refer to entities in the real world. Research on symbolic development suggests that symbolic understandin...
